Department of Biology

The department of Biology was established in 1956. The department offers undergraduate programmes in Botany and Zoology. It also offers a self financed, UGC recognized Career Oriented Programme (COP) in Gardening and Landscaping. It offers its first year programme in both Gujarati and English.

The department has produced students who have gone on to complete their studies in Universities abroad (Australia, Canada, and the USA). Several of them are faculty in different Colleges in the city and State and have completed their doctorates subsequently.

The department has a total of 448 books for reference. The central library has 3604 books. It also subscribes to one journal. It is equipped with two computers, an OHP, a research microscope, a microtone and a digital microscope which is very useful in demonstrating complex practicals to students. The department has a built up area of 45 sq. m, which is spread into 2 laboratories. The department maintains a botanical garden that boasts of around 1000 species of plants. It has a herbarium, a collection of birds, butterflies, and insects. It also has a green house. The department has ongoing projects and 9 publications in national journals.
