Department of Economics

The department of Economics was established in 1961. The department offers an undergraduate programme in Economics. The programme is offered in both Gujarati and English in all the three years. The department has a total of 225 students of which 150 are in the English medium. Apart from this, the department also offers a UGC-recognized Career Oriented Certificate Programme in Foreign Trade Management. Changes made in the courses or programmes during the past five years and the contribution of the faculty to those changes.

The department has a total of 3687 books of which 392 are in Gujarati. It also subscribes to five journals, two in Gujarati and three in English to facilitate learning in economics. There is a separate library for the COP in Foreign Trade Management. This library contains 49 reference books.

The department organizes self-learning programmes where a student prepares a topic and presents it before the class. It also organizes interactive sessions with question and answers. It encourages students to write assignments on a regular basis. Class tests are conducted on a regular basis for the Gujarati medium students.
The department has informal collaboration with Sardar Patel Institute of Economics and Social Research and RIS (Research Information System) Delhi.
