A. Eligibility

Students who have passed the Gujarat HSC Board Examination are eligible for admission to the first year of College. Students who have passed from other Boards may apply for admission only after having obtained a Provisional Eligibility Certificate from Gujarat University. Candidates are admitted on the basis of their marks at the qualifying examination, and a personal interview with the Principal and/or his delegates. Those who have outstanding achievements in any field of human endeavour are given consideration. These latter are treated as ‘special cases’. Christians and the discriminated classes (SC/ST/OBC) are given special consideration.

Students who have attended St. Xavier’s College the previous year are normally assured of re-admission provided their conduct and progress have been satisfactory. For students of SYBA and SYBSc admission to a particular group will be decided on merit. Those who wish to continue their studies at St. Xavier’s must fill out their admission form and pay their fees within a week of the reopening of College even if their University results have not been declared. Applications received after that period will be considered on merit, place permitting, and a ‘late fee’ will be charged for those who are re-admitted. Students who are unable to fill their form or pay their fees personally may request a responsible person in town to do so for them, and inform the Principal/Vice-principal of the arrangement. The College Office does not accept any such undertaking.

Students who have ATKT (allowed to keep terms) in the annual examinations have to clear the given exams. Such students should fill the ATKT exam forms available in the College Office. These exams are held in October/April. Students are expected to check details about these from the College Office. Please note the College will not send individual notices. Regarding the submission of the ATKT forms, students should make inquiries in the College Office: 1) in the 1st week of September for the October exams, and 2) the 1st week of December for the April exams. The annual examination results of those who fail to clear their ATKT exams will be withheld, as per University rules.

Those who fail in the annual examinations need not apply for readmission, i.e. ‘repeat’ the year by attending regular lectures/practicals. They need only apply for re-examination through the College Office at the proper time. However, those who have failed the annual examinations due to insufficient internal marks will have to re-appear for a special college test in September or during the 2nd terminal exams in February.

Students from other colleges who wish to join St. Xavier’s College in the second year must check the possibility and/or rules for admission on the notice board, after their University results are declared. Admission into higher classes is based on academic merit, and on the availability of places in the particular subject-group. Those applicants whose names have been short-listed will be called for an interview with the Principal.
