Department of Mathematics

The department offers Mathematics at under graduate level. The department offers undergraduate programme in Gujarati and in English to first years and in English for second and third years. It also offers Computer Science to second and third year students. It has a total intake capacity of 300 students.

The department has a computer. It had a departmental library. Currently all the books are housed in the main library. It has 3729 books (3443 in English, and 286 in Gujarati) and two periodicals. The National Board of Higher Mathematics has been donating every year the latest books in Mathematics to the department.

The department collaborates with Bhavan’s College for PG teaching and with Gujarat Ganith Mandal for developmental programmes in mathematics. The department sends students every year to the mathematical Training and Talent Search programmes (M.T.T.S.) supported by the National Board of Higher Mathematics. 50% of the students selected from the West zone are from this department. The department also encourages students to take part in mathematical contests, like the A. R. Rao Ganith Sparda in large numbers. Faculty and students also collaborated with the Community Science Centre in their mathematical activities. Mr. U. M. Prajapati collaborates with HBCSE (TIFR) for the mathematic Olympiad.

The department has five books and one article published.
