Criterion III – Research Consultancy & Extension

The staff members are encouraged to pursue their research work and publish their findings. They are encouraged to participate and present papers at conferences, seminars, symposia and workshops. The Management supports individual research projects through financial assistance. One of the Vice-Principals is assigned to promote research and extension activities.

The college has a remarkable record of Extension Activities. Behavioral Science Centre (BSC) for social action among the rural, marginalized poor, Xavier Centre for Development (XCD) for the neighbourhood slums and Gurjarvani, a media center are three such autonomous institutions developed from the personal initiatives of some of the college staff members. The faculty in departments of Bio-Chemistry, Biology and Physics have on-going research projects which are note-worthy. The faculty members in the Departments of English and Sanskrit are also involved in commendable research. The Research Centre which is an autonomous institution under the same management, creates a research culture at the college and also works to make the progress of technology reach the tribal and rural masses. Interdisciplinary research is done in and through BSC.

A few staff members are involved in consultancy. Most of the consultancy is done gratis. The finances generated through consultancy in biochemistry, forestry, computer aided rural development programmes go to the research centre. Though there is no formal institutional linkage at the International level, individual faculty have collaborative arrangements and facilities to work in prestigious research Institutions or with good researchers.

The college offers extension programmes such as Community Development, Adult Education and Literacy, Social Work, Medical Camp, Blood Donation Camp, Environmental Awareness, Remedial Education for rural drop-outs, Culture based pre-school education for tribals. Kits and teaching modules are developed to help education in schools for Tribal children.

The efforts of the Management, Staff and Students in reaching out to the needy and deserving through the various extension activities of the college is praiseworthy.
