Criterion V – Student Support and Progression
The College is providing necessary assistance to the students for good experience. A number of facilities are available for their support and progression. More than 120 scholarships and awards are instituted for the deserving students. Loan schemes are also floated for the needy Christian students. A large number of scholarships are also awarded to the students of the dispossessed/depressed community. Last year scholarships awarded to the SC/ST/OBC students alone by the government were to the tune of 2,59,230/- Free books are given to the financially weak students from the book bank.
Orientation classes are held before admission and immediately after admission to guide the admission seekers and admitted students about the aptitude and options available in higher education. Four trained psychological counselors provide excellent necessary inputs wherever required. Informal academic counseling by the subject teachers continues throughout the year. This year, the College is organizing a mega event. The theme of this mega festival is “Career Options” in which several experts from Industry and other placement services will take part. Holding of weekly value education classes is one of the unique and healthy practices of the College. These classes help students to become strong, spiritually and psychologically.
This College is considered to be the best in Ahmedabad for liberal Arts and Science subjects. The result of the College in several university examinations have never been below 90%. Success rate is very high. Actual drop out rate is low. The gap between students admitted and sent for examination is due to the fact that a large number of students leave the College when they get admission in the professional colleges, the process of which continues for several months.
There is no placement officer on the regular basis. All the teachers extend guidance to the needy. Absence of functional employment cell does not go with the culture and tradition of such a missionary College.
The College has a registered alumni association, TOXA. The association has a branch in U.S.A. Last year TOXA donated Rs. 1,34,204/- to the College. Old teachers of the College have also formed their association, TOXTA. This body meet every Saturday for interaction amongst themselves.
Though the College has a long history of it’s successful and illustrious alumni excelling in almost every field, like religion, education, administrative services, politics, armed forces, science and technology, music, dance, performing arts, media, sports, industry, law and business etc; it has not been able to systematically track their alumni.
There is no proper placement cell. This needs to be established at the earliest. A separate corner in the library, if provided for the literature showing global facilities available for higher studies, would further enhance the prestige of the College.
